Why handmade children's wall art?
Well, I never considered myself artistic....but during pregnancy I was hit with the urge to try to create textured wall art - you know those beautiful modern minimalist spackle pieces that artists on Instagram so gracefully swept onto large canvasses. Yah. Not so graceful over here. But I did eventually stumble into making little animals and was immediately hooked. During a difficult time in my life, these cute little creations brought me peace and joy.Â
After my son was born we were faced with the reality that he had an ultra rare neurodegenerative disorder that would impact him for life. I fell into the catch-22 of having to choose between work to afford his healthcare and therapies and being able to care for my child and having the flexibility to tend to his perpetual cycle of illnesses and seizures. It was a whole new world I was exposed to and sadly a situation that many caregivers of special needs individuals face.Â
In order to raise funds for the ongoing gene therapy development that could change Leo’s life, I decided to try and sell my little creations. That brings us to this little shop of mission-driven kids decor. Your purchases provide me the means to take care of Leo and join the effort to make a cure for him and the other children a reality.
